Free Yorkie
11 Tips To Find A Free Yorkie
A free Yorkie can be hard to find because they are so
popular. According to the American Kennel Club they have been
the 2nd most popular dog in America for almost 10
years.
They have only been second to the all time popular Labrador
Retriever, but this may soon change. Yorkies are increasing in
popularity quickly and continue to be a popular breed to cross
with other breeds like the Chihuahua, Poodle, Bichon Frise, and
Dachshund.
If you can’t afford to buy a Yorkie for several hundreds of
dollars, you might be able to find a free Yorkie, but only if
you look long and hard. Sometimes you may even get lucky and
find someone giving one away in your neighborhood.
One word of caution before you go out looking for a free
Yorkie. Ask why the person is giving their dog away for free.
Could it be for medical reasons? Or how about chronic behavior
problems? Whatever the reasons you should find out otherwise
want you wanted might become your nightmare
11 Tips To Find A Free Yorkie
1. Contact local breeders for runts
or for older puppies. Often times people only want to buy cute
little puppies and don’t want to buy older puppies once they
have lost that cuteness.
2. Look in local classified ads for
older people giving up dogs. Many older people get in the
position where they can no longer physically or financial care
for their Yorkshire Terrier. This is your chance to help them
out by promising to take good care of their dog.
3. Go to local shelters. Local dog
shelters have more dogs than they know what to do with. Be
careful if you find your dog here though. Often these dogs are
there for behavior problems.
4. Contact the local dog rescue. Dog
rescues are always taking in needy dogs. If you contact them
and let them know you would be interested in fostering a
Yorkie, they might be able to help you.
5. Contact your local veterinary clinic.
Local vet clinics always seem to know what is going on in the
area, and might be a great source for leads on free
dogs.
6. Online Dog forums. There are many Yorkie
dog forums online and you might be able to connect with someone
with too many dogs.
7. Join the local dog club. Local dog clubs
are another great source for information about who may have a
cheap or free Yorkie on their hands that they need to get rid
of.
8. Go to dog shows and pet product shows.
While this might be not be the best resource, there are many
breeders at these shows that you can get in contact with. Give
them your number and tell them what you are looking
for.
9. Ask to dog sit for someone. Sometimes
volunteering to sit for someone’s Yorkie can be a good way to
let them know you would be interested in caring even more for
their dog.
10. Offer to help a breeder out in exchange
for one. Breeders always need extra help, and if you volunteer
to help one, they might give you a discounted or a free
Yorkie.
11. Place an ad yourself. Local classified
ads are cheap and sometimes free. Let everyone know you want a
free Yorkie, and see if anyone contacts you.
