Dachshund Yorkie Mix
A Dachshund Yorkie is not a very commonly found cross, but
some people desire this dog because of its unique
characteristics.
A Dachshund Yorkie cross is make by breeding a
Yorkshire Terrier and a Dachshund. In order to
better examine the resulting offspring lets first examine
what the two parent breeds bring to the
table.
Dachshund – Characteristics It Brings To the
Crossbreed
The Dachshund, whose name means “badger dog” in
German is a very unique dog. Originally used for
hunting in small burrows, it has a very good sense of
smell and a small size. Today’s Dachshund remains a
very good hunter.
It is one of the most popular dog breeds in
American, and it was first recognized by the AKC in
1885. They come in three different coat varieties,
the Smooth, Wirehaired, and Longhaired. They also
come in two different sizes, the Miniature and
Standard.
These dogs have a playful temperament and are
great companions. Their coats require regular
grooming and it varies by what type of coat your dog
has.
Standard sizes weigh between 16 and 32 pounds,
and the Miniatures weigh less than 11 pounds.
Yorkshire Terrier – Characteristics It Brings To The
Crossbreed
The Yorkie originally comes from Yorkshire
England and is black and tan in color. It weighs
only 7 pounds and has straight hair, and is also
considered to be hypoallergenic like the Bichon
Frise.
They belong to the Toy Group and are the second
most popular dog breed in America.
These dogs travel well and make great house
pets. Their long coats require regular
brushing. The AKC first recognized them in
1885.
